The Great Escape is proud to present the Avatar Collection - the amazing personal collection of Raymond Dowdell, Jr., the owner of Avatar Records in Kentucky. After Mr. Dowdell passed away earlier this year, The Great Escape acquired his massive collection built over 40 years as a music fan and record-store owner. The scope of this collection is mind-boggling. Genres well-represented include classic rock, alternative rock, prog rock, heavy metal, power metal, british metal, thrash, pop and much more. Equally remarkable is the condition of the records. Great care was obviously taken in choosing these LPs. With few exceptions, both the cover and the record within are in near-mint or better condition!
Currently select titles from the collection are being sold on eBay. You can browse them on our eBay store. The remainder of the collection is currently on sale at The Great Escape Charlotte. Located at 5400 Charlotte Ave, Nashville TN, 37209, this store has ample room to contain the 11,000+ LPs, 8,000+ CDs, hundreds of music DVD and VHS titles, magazines, framed prints that comprise this remarkable collection.

The ABC's of Metal: The following is a partial list of metal CDs that are a part of the Avatar Collection going on sale at The Great Escape Charlotte on November 28th. This total includes limited editions, EPs, singles, imports, re-mastered versions, etc... This total does not include LP releases which in many cases increases the totals significantly. If an artist has less than 10 CDs represented, there is not a total after their name.
